Depth of field through the viewfinder - Question!
Dec 27, 2010

I just bought a D3100 with the 18-105mm and the 35mm f1.8 lens.

Its my first DSLR so I am still learning how to use it...but I think I am generally happy with it.

What I found strange enough was that when using the viewfinder (especially with the fast prime) the depth of field that I see is much larger than the one in the final photo.

I though that the viewfinder was supposed to show everything that the lens sees. Probably there are some optic parameters involved that expand the DOF...maybe some distance increasing because mirrors are used...ect. Its normal right?
