SX30 Movies and Exposure compensation

I was taking movies of my son's band concert and the spotlight on the center of the band members caused them to be white in order to compensate for the darker surrounding background and stage. Is there a way to trick or set the movie exposure. I would like to under expose by at least 1 stop. Thanks.
