GH2 In-camera jpeg image quality (or lack of)

I collected my GH2, I've taken some test shots and I'm taking it back.
The quality of the in-camera jpg shots is much poorer than from my G1. The GH2 clearly has stronger noise reduction resulting in a soft focus effect on fine textured areas, but there's also more chroma noise and it can be pretty blotchy and unpleasent too.
You might like to download and compare two shots taken at the same ISO, aperture and shutter speed on the G1 and GH2. Look at the GH2 shot and you will see blotchy chroma noise in the black velvet square, loss of detail in the cork square and noise / loss of detail in the shadow of the 20mm lens focus ring.

There are some shots in the set at different ISOs and at 400 I really tried to find a way to make the GH2 shine. For example I tried giving it 1/3 stop more exposure (it seems to be 1/3 stop less sensitive at 400 ISO than the G1) and turning on iContrast and iResolution. All these things helped but the results were still not as good as the G1.
