D3100, live view, mirror lockup & flash sync

The D3100 lacks a mirror lock up function to minimize camera movement for a shot. It does have a lockup function in the menu, but this only seems usable for cleaning the sensor, not shooting.
Accoriding to imaging resources preview of the camera, "At the top right corner of the LCD display is a new dedicated Live View switch. It's a momentary switch that rotates to the right to enter and exit Live view mode. When activated, the Nikon D3100 raises its mirror and opens the mechanical shutter to expose its image sensor , then clocks off a continuous data stream to provide a live view on the rear-panel LCD."
Does this mean you effectively get a mirror lockup when you activate Live View?
Also, if it's not using the mechanical shutter in LV mode, does that mean you get a faster flash sync speed?
