Replacement for A620
Dec 8, 2010

My A620 is getting on in years and I am looking for a replacement before it dies. Shutter lag, focus speed, ans shot to shot time are my priorities but image quality and higher ISO performance are important also. I would like to at least match the 140mm equiv for the tele end of the zoom. I tested my A620 against a Pana ZS5 that was on a great sale at Best Buy ($199.99) and the new camera got dusted by the shot to shot time of my five year old beast. According to the Imaging Resource and dpreview tests the A620 is faster than the G11/12 in many categories! Here are the numbers from the test:
Off to record=1.3
Half press wide=0.4
Half press tele=0.55
Half to full=
Shot to shot w/o flash=1.4
Shot to shot w/ flash=2.0 (varies with subject distance)

I am looking for a reasonable priced, reasonably compact (no 'bridge' camera) replacement with greater than 140mm equiv that will beat the speed of my old A620.

Is there anything short of an SLR that will beat these speeds or have cameras been too bogged down by the megapixel race?

Thank you,
