Which system to choose : four third or micro four third
Dec 8, 2010

I have posted also in Sony forum, then I saw this . I dont want to repeat i but have to.

I request all of you to suggest - which camera body shud I buy for wildlife phoitography : four third or micro four third? Which make? Which model?

I am a wild life photographer who always want longest focal length to keep distance from the subject. For that reason, I want to buy a 4/3 four third format camera or may be micro four third also. With four third cameras focal length becomes double i.e. 50mm lens’ view is equal to 100mm from the same distance, ( pl correct if I am wrong). Thus 300mm F2.8 will be 600mm F2.8. and 200-500 zoom will be 400-1000mm equal.

My requirement is -1. Doubling focal length. 2. High rate of frames 6-10FPS preferred. 3. Light Weight. 4. Fast autofocusing for birds in flight. 5 . Use of non manufacturer lenses with adapter, ( I know I cannot autofocus, stopped down metering only) e.g. Nikon lens on Micro four third body.

I think there are 3 big players in 4/3 or micro 4/3 system, Sony, Panasonic and Olympus. Samsung not big. I think Sony has good lens range of its own, Zeiss and Sigma or others also make for it. It has advantage of = Minolta mount used lenses available good price, its lenses can be used on full frame, APSC frame and four third –all. While Olympus and Panasonic lenses will be limited to 4/3 cameras only even APSC not possible.

Another point important- Can I use Olympus lens on Sony 4/3 or Micro 4/3 bodies? Will it auto focus and all other functions similar to original body? I read 4/3 format lens mount is same with all companies.

I request all of you to suggest - which camera body shud I buy : four third or micro four third? Which make? Which model?
