does DOF on FF versus APS-C that significant?

I want to buy a Nikon D700 because it is full frame and I have FF lenses (wide lenses/zoom- from my film days)..

but since I have had D100, D200 and have sold them and and I now have D90 and D3100... I realized that I now have about equal amounts of FF lens and DX lenses...

so ASIDE from the supposedly low light/low noise capabilities/inherent properties of a FF sensor... (but apparently the D7000 is quite good with that capabilty)... would going Full Frame still beneficial-- at least when it comes to depth of field? specially for portraits and the resulting BOKEH/or subject separating from background?
