Recommended Internet Security for a new computer

Hi,

I am contemplating a new computer and wondering which anti-virus etc protection to instal to get full protection.

I have been using AVG Free and Zonealarm Firewall, also free. I have not had any problems but I have always suspected that they may be not as effective as a paid for program, and so have had other programs like Spybit and Windows Defender running too.

I am thinking that the above is overkill and is probably slowing down my present computer.

Has anyone any thoughts on what I should use please?
