D7000 worth 24-70 Nikkor?

The review made clear that the 18-105 mm didn't take full advantage of the D7000's sensor. Now I know the 24-70 is a full-frame lens (i.e. you're not really getting your money's worth if you don't use it with full frame cameras), but that aside, do others think it would be overkill to pair the D7000 with this lens?

If so, is there an intermediate lens between the two?
