IMHO, the best all round prime for the 7D is the 35 f/1.4L.

I can think of 4 contenders for best all round zoom: EF-S 15-85, EF-S 17-55, EF 24-105L and the EF 24-70L.

The zooms really break down according to which is most important to you--a constant f/2.8 aperture, or a wider zoom range.

If you want the 2.8 aperture, then your choices are the EF-S 17-55 and the EF 24-70L. The L lens is better built, but lacks image stabilization. The 17-55 has 3-stops of IS, and IMO has a more useful zoom range on a crop sensor camera like the 7D. So, as between these two, I'd recommend the 17-55.

If a wider zoom range is most important to you, then your choices are the EF-S 15-85 and the EF 24-105L. Again, the L is better built, but the 15-85's build is very good--among the best of the non-L lenses. Both lenses have 4-stops of IS. IQ is about the same. As between these two, I'd recommend the 15-85, since, IMO, it has a more useful zoom range on a crop sensor camera. It's also considerably less expensive than the L lens.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
