Canon 60d v 50D...to be or not to be
Nov 24, 2010

I am looking to buy a Canon 60d (body only) because I already own a Canon 17-55mm f 2.8 IS USM lens.

I recent read a review of this lens where the writer stated that, in his opinion, its size and weight made it a less than perfect choice to use with an EOS 500D or a 550d as these camera were too small and too light to make a 'balanced' combination.

Given that the 60d could be describes as being more akin to a super Rebel than a development of its family predecessor the 50d, it raises the question as to whether the 50d would make a better anchor for my admittedly heavy lens than the 60d. Or, to put the question another way, has the larger size and heavier weight of the 60d when compared to 550d increased sufficiently to overcome the previously alleged 'balance' problem. Personally, if the 60d had retained the metal body of the 50d, I would buy it without the slightest hesitation.

Any comments would be truly appreciated,
