Are you saying the Sigma has many bad copies?

No.

Sigma has a reputation for loose quality control or sample variation as the result is labeled.

Whether this is true or just one of those rumors that echo around and get repeated till they get taken for a fact, is difficult to say.

I have had three Sigma lenses.
The 8-16 WA zoom and the 150 F2.8 macro are excellent.
I had to exchange a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 to get a good one and it was good.

Eventually sold it in favour of a used Nikkor, which among other things is sharper wide open.

I also have a Nikkor AF-S 17-55 F2.8 which, judging from the spread of opinions here, seems to suffer from sample variation.
Mine is stellar. So...?

A little pro active testing is a good idea whatever brand you buy. Or buy where you can return/exchange.

Can yoiu please tell me the Sigma's size ?

DxL = 75x105.5 mm

Weight = 545 grams

Good luck with your decision!
