revisiting the 300D...
The most common shutter failure on the 300D is the breaking of the silly plastic pin. This can be repaired yourself now the camera is sold that you have nothing to lose by trying.
I did try repairing it but it was beyond hope, it was a good camera while it lasted, it even survived a fall hard enough to snap the lens in two (20-40mm f2.8) this happened while climbing to get some waterfall shots in BC, the only damage done to the camera was a couple of scratches. thats when I found out plastic bodies bounce
