D7000 AF Fine Tune?
Nov 16, 2010
I've never had a DSLR with this feature so I thought I'd do a focus test with some of my lenses to see if any needed any adjustments. I downloaded and printed the Focus Test Chart V2.00 by Time Jackson from http://www.scribd.com . I used a tripod, used the timer function to reduce camera shake, and shot as wide open as my lenses would allow to keep the depth of field as shallow as possible.
My Nikon 17-55 2.8 DX was spot on so I made no adjustments to the AF Fine tune.
My Nikon 35mm 1.8 DX had a slight back focus so I adjusted -3.
To my surprise, my Nikon 80-200 2.8D ED had major back focus with an adjustment of -20 (the maximum adjustment allowed!).
The Nikon D90 I used with my 80-200 2.8D ED seemed spot on when I used it extensively this past summer shooting the U.S. National Fencing Championships in Atlanta so I was surprised how much is was off on my D7000.
Can a lens be spot on focus on one camera but way off on another camera? Any other tips and advice using this feature?
