don't know how you caught the horse riding photo with a slightly blurred/moving background but crisp focus on the horse (even the legs of the horse seem almost stationary!)
using a crop camera (500D), and not thinking of upgrading to FF any time soon, i think perhaps the 24mm would be better, or at least my choice.. that said, i just how much more expensive the 24mm f/1.4 is to the 35mm... @ @
