open letter to all the GF2 haterz

Rant below ... not directed to anyone in particular - just to all the people raving mad about the GF2 and it's "lack of controls"

Did you come out of the womb understanding the relationship between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture? And when to select shutter speed priority and when to select aperture priority? Oh, wait, you were born understanding exposure completely, so you never used those "beginner" modes - you went straight to full-on manual with your calibrated eyeball as a light meter.

People have to start somewhere with a "beginner" camera that helps them along and shows the benefit of further understanding the more manual modes. That is what will progress the soccer mom taking snapshots of her kids to taking artful photographs ... and platforms like this are IDEAL for that. Enough "reserve" capacity to show the benefit, but not as daunting as a full-on DSLR. People will be more encouraged to experiment with different settings with a camera like this than they will by a camera "an enthusiast" like yourself would be.

The GF2 serves a market segment JUST as valid (and a helluva lot more profitable) than the D3x. Panasonic is to be congratulated on coming out with a "gateway" camera that will encourage people to learn more about photography and take better photographs than would ever be possible with just about any other camera on the market.
