Advice for my 7d AF + MA

I've been playing with my new 7D and 50mm f1.4 for 3 days.

I'm thrilled with this camera and performance! Absolutely marvelous. Its AF is quite advanced. However, I noticed that my lens was usually front focusing.

So I played with MA. I didn't want to do any charts so I went to the field for testing.

It seems that I obtain the spot-on focus with +9 setting. Is that too high? Both the camera and lens are new, so I was concerned a bit - is that ok? But then again, the settings go to +20.

Do you have any particular advice for 7d's AF or MA? What types of AF spots are you using for portraits? I'm using back-button focusing with AF-ON, usually AF point expansion and zone AF.
