Micro 4/3 vs Full Frame (35mm)
Oct 30, 2010

I recently purchased a GF-1 and so far it seems like a really nice little camera. Image quality is quite good and the 20 1.7 is fantastic.

I did a few comparisons vs my 5d2 for those who are interested.....(this is not meant as a scientfic test with completely equal variables, but rather as a simple comparison using these two cameras in the way that I would them on a day to day basis)...

In the first two sets of photos the GF-1 images were upsized to 5d2 size. All PP in LR to equalize WB, saturation, etc as much as possible. Out of camera the GF-1 RAW files are much less saturated and seem to require more PP.

5d2, 35 f/2, f/3.2, ISO 800....

So far, I'm pretty impressed with the GF-1, especially considering its size. There are times when I will want the high ISO performance or the shallower DOF of the 5d2, but I can see myself using the GF-1 quite a bit.

So far I only have the 20 1.7, but I can see myself adding a zoom and maybe a couple of old FD primes.
