Why do people buy the 8mm fisheye lens?

My apologies for starting with a stupid question.

I think the Lumix 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens is interesting due to the very compact size. However, I don't really like the fisheye effect. I suppose you can de-fish the image in post processing, but that would lose a lot of resolution.

I can think of some handful of interesting fisheye images I've seen. But using the effect a lot might wear out the effect.

So why do people buy the fisheye lens? Is it for a handful of product or achitectural shots? Or to use the fisheye effect, always? Or to de-fish the images later? Or something else?
