Nikkor 35mm 1.8G harsh bokeh and fringing?

I'm finding a few unpleasant aspects to this lens on my new D3100 - mainly harsh bright edges in bokeh discs and some doubling in busy areas like carpeting. I plan to post some samples.

One of the more visible issues I've noticed however are bright magenta or even green fringing around highlights, even in center at wide open. Is this consistent behavior for this lens? The not-creamy bokeh I was half expecting even though it's hard to find a straight answer on this online (lots of people apparently see a wide range of bokeh as 'good').
