I have both. Neither can replace the other. My 135L is used for indor low light photography of dance or theater with lots of motion.

For outdoor use, the Zoom usually comes in handier than the 135 except for specific jobs like portraits where the shallow depth of field makes a substantial difference.

Every photographer has his favorite types of subjects. Use the lens that makes sense, or like me, use both.

However, the 70-200mmL would be my choice for most situations, and the 135mmL for more limited ones. I checked last years usage, and found I have about 2600 images with the 135 and 1400 with the 70-200mm f/4 IS.
