Another request for advice for new printer..thanks

It is new printer time....my "Epson Stylus Photo 895" is making an ominous clunking sound and it only works sometimes now.
I have an "Epson Perfection 3590 Photo" scanner and this wors well. I like the ability to scan negatives and slides, although I have probably scanned most now, but I am happy to retain it.
So I can do with a new printer, but not a scanner/printer I think. Space is not a big issue.
I was going to look at Epson again, but have been impressed by friends Canon printers (but they have multi-functionals)....the pixma range seem good.
I have a B/W laser printer that I use for most documents/web pages where colour is not necessary. I send most prints off to be printed, but want to be able to produce high quality prints occasionally. Up to A4 size is sufficient.
So any advice....for about £100 (GBpounds), but would pay more if necessary.
Thanks
