707/717+ HVL-F1000 notes

I received a note from a reader wondering why the heck I didn't tell everybody about the terrible overexposures being encountered with the 717 and HVL-F1000 flash unit when compared to the 707 with the same flash.

This is why:

The same flash was used on each. The cameras are made a year apart and nearly every value in the pair of images is within a small percentage of each other.

These are NOT flammable differences, in my opinion.

Is Sony making the current crop of HVL-F1000's to a different standard? Dunno. But the look on the camera monitor has the 717's image looking MUCH brighter than it does on the 707's, while in fact the actual file is only a little bit brighter.

Is this really a MONITOR perception issue?
