FF v Crop v Compact DOF
Oct 2, 2010

Hi All

Thought I'd post a couple shots which I posted on another forum which people found quite interesting.

The other thread was comparing modern super zooms with dSLR's, basically the argument was are modern super zooms catching up...

One of the points which kept poping up was shallow depth of field, to try and highlight the difference and to show its uses other thay just blurring ears which seems to be the common preception i posted these images.

All shots taken on the same tripod from the same location. To get the same/simular FOV the G10 was zoomed to 18.1mm, my 40D had a 50mm lens and my 5D2 had a 85mm lens.

1. Canon G10 F4.5 (wide open) 18.1mm

2. Canon 40D 50mm F2.0

3. Canon 5D Mark II 85mm F2.0

I think it goes a way to show FF shallow depth of field isn't just about portraits.
