The 35mm f/1.4G focusing issues
Oct 2, 2010

I had the chance today at a nikonians' meeting to handle the latest Nikon cameras (D7000/P7000) and Nikkor lenses (35mm, 85mm and the other two FX zooms).

I was only interested in the 35G since I already have the 85 f/1.4 AF-D (although I did shoot a few pics with it just to see how it feels), so the first lens that I mounted on my D700 was the 35G. I was quite blown away about the optical quality of the lens - sharpness at f/1.4 (although on my camera the lens suffered from a bit of front focusing), colors and bokeh were awesome.

The only thing that I disliked about the new 35G was the focusing speed. It is slow as a kit lens, slow like a 35mm f/1.8 DX or a 50G. For me this is a deal breaker, I was really keen to buy this lens, but since the focusing speed is so slow I think I will be better served by a manual focus lens (Zeiss or maybe the upcoming Samyang).

Has anyone handled the 35G to confirm my findings?
