Photographing during the fencing world championships... Any tips ?
Oct 1, 2010

Hi there.

I do quite a bit of sports and concert photography. Ill go to Paris as an accredited photographer to cover the fencing world championships, and I was wondering if anyone had similar experience. I understand (at least I think) the major points here:

Its low lighting, and fast action, and no flash allowed. So technically I think Ill end up with the following:

Prime (?) lens with large aperture (1.4), high ISO (around 2000+), fast shutter (around 1/400-500). Regarding placement Im not quite sure how close we will get to the action, so I might end up with a zoom lens (24-70), although it might be necessary with something with a longer zoom range.

Anyone covering events like this before and can give me some hints about how to approach it ? As a fencer myself I understand what action to look for, its more the technical approach Im looking for I guess. I am using a Nikon D3s for as my main camera.
