As I said before, I did not know much about the Tamron 60mm macro, but from what I hear it seems to be a very good lens. If I had to start out now, I would seriously consider this lens over the 90mm as 60mm should be easier to handhold at 1:1, with the same WD, and the focal length is more practical for portraits. It is slightly more expensive here in the UK than the 90mm.

The Bugma (Sigma 150mm macro) is also supposed to be an outstanding macro lens, but the FL will mean using a mono/tripod at 1:1 and it is much more expensive.

The Tamron 90mm macro is still an outstanding macro lens for what it costs and you can't really go wrong buying it.

And I can also get 1:1 shots of bugs with my 90mm.
