What lens/es to take with 5D II to Patagonia?
Sep 23, 2010

I am planning a 3-4 months backpack trip to Patagonia and other South America locations. I will be taking a 5D II and a 24-70/2.8L lens as my basic gear, and intend to take 1-2 additional lens/es, hopefully with total camera gears weigh no more than 3Kg. Photography is my main interest, and I expect to do landscapes, PJ's, portrait candid, and a bit of optional nature/wildlife.

For additional lenses to take, my initial thoughts are:
1. 17TSE (most probably): landscapes
2. Tamron 28-300 VC (may be): walk around, nature/wildlife
3. 135/2L (unlikely): portrait candid, tele
4. Others???

Weight, and size, are definitely major considerations. I will take a 12mm extension tube for macro, a 300g monopod with my trekking poles as tripod, a small P&S, whistles and bells, ...

I would appreciate your ideas, and in particular, your experience photographing at Patagoina as a backpacker.

-Steve
