Olympus to drop m43

Tokyo, Japan (AP) - With growing pressure from all sides, including m43 partner Panasonic, Olympus Corp. today announced that it is advising current customers to upgrade to to n43, otherwise known as nano-four-thirds.

"Well, with Panasonic coming out with so many G and GH cameras at different price points, as well as many lenses, we don't feel like we can compete," said Waukawauka Kikukawa, Chairman and C.E.O. of Olympus America.

"Furthermore, with NEX, NX, and even DSLRs ranging from the A55 to the D700, we are forced to innovate and take m43 to its natural conclusion of using nanotechnology," Kikukawa added.

"As you can see above, we leverage the small sensor to achieve what we always wanted, a really small camera with very small lenses. Though do note that only real photographers who love Olympus can perceive this camera," Kikukawa cautioned.

Representatives from Canon and Panasonic declined to be interviewed for this story. However, a director from Nikon, wishing to maintain anonymity, said plainly, "We wish Olympus good luck with its NoNo-four-third technology, because it's something No one would ever touch."

Olympus stock drop 1948 yens today.
