Is 7D worth $600 over 50D?

My 20D is still going strong (about 25000 pics) after almost 5 years, but I do crave a newer camera. Been closely looking at prices and there seems to be about $600 difference between a 50D and a 7D. Now I know there are differences between the two cameras but is there really a $600 difference? Plus the 50D uses the same battery as the 20D which would save buying an extra battery.
