D700 plus grip vs. D3, anyone used both?

Has anyone used both cameras?

What are the subtle differences? What are the handling differences?

My experience with the D200 wasn't very good. I didn't like the AF sensors or the manual lens rangefinder. Both were inferior to the D2h and made getting shots difficult with AF or MF glass. I eventually quit using it.

I'm also a fan of the built in vertical grip. I loved my D2h, D2x, and D1x cameras, despite their liabilities.

Because of this, I've always had my eyes set on a D3; however, I've seen D700 with included vertical grips go for $800-$900 less than the D3 cameras.

I know the D700 is slightly bigger with the grip, but other than that, what are the subtle differences? Are the viewfinders very different? Does one have a tighter tolerance manual-lens rangefinder? (Ie: easier to MF with the green dot)?

How about handling and button layout? Comments?

I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's not like I can go to a store and test one out. Thanks for the help!
