Twain 5 makes me SICK!

Does anyone have an alternative for the Twain 5 scanner software?
I have used afga studio scan for years and it works great, just let you arrange your settings but this Epson stuff is really nonsence. Everytime I change a setting, something unwanted is changed or reset becaus some foolish programmer thought it might be handy.
I can't understand why a firm like Epson degrades his outstandig hardware by shipping it with sub standard software.
The whole evening I am busy scanning negatives and it comes out in 20 different formats because Twain choose so ... I am really sick of it now.
