Having a sealed camera that is water-tap proof helps one to be able to take it to the beach...... I can confidently hold my E-1 under the water tap to get out any bit of sand.

I was never affraid to take any camera to beaches, including the E-500, and never felt the need to hold any camera under tap water to clean them. In any case, I would be confident to do that with the D7000 as well, in case you missed the information.
