Some Voting Guidelines for PPG. . .
Sep 16, 2010

I was just "doing my duty" on the PPG and voting for images. What strikes me is this: some of the images I come across I would definitely have voted yes enthusiastically on IF some very simple steps had been taken to make these images sing.

1. People, DE-NOISE YOUR IMAGES! (I just voted no on a beautiful macro of a dewdrop with a reflection in it on a green branch of leaves.) It was noisy enough that I felt it didn't belong in the PPG.

2. REMOVE YOUR DUST SPOTS! Another beautiful image that I would have voted yes for had blobs of dust on the sensor that could EASILY have been removed even in PS Elements.

3. If you do a monochrome conversion, take out any funky/ugly color casts. I voted no on a really nice, moody portrait of a little girl, half of whose face was nicely shadowed. But there was an ugly color cast to it AND it hadn't been de-noised AND there were a couple of dust blobs. . . Three strikes. . .

4. Just because you had a good day shooting, PLEASE don't post ten or more shots from the same shoot. Decide on one that represents the whole shoot best and post it. People (read: me!) get very irritated having to wade through tons of the "same" shot either in portrait orientation, horizontal orientation, monochrome versions of the same, taken from a low vantage point, etc, etc ad nauseum. It DOESN'T help your case. . .

I hate to vote no. But I feel that since I enter images, I must vote for others' images as they are kind enough to take the time to vote for mine. If you want your images in the PPG, take the necessary extra steps to make your beautiful shots sing and the rest will follow.
