Sigma 70-200 OS review up
Sep 13, 2010

Looks like another F2.8 3rd party lens which isn't worth the bother of carrying the extra weight let alone paying the hilarious (UK) price over the Canon 70-200 F4L IS....

review states it is soft and loses contrast wideopen (less so than its predecessors but they were almost a third of the price) - for a big clumsy 70-200 F2.8 to survive in this day and age of the prime Sharp canon F4L AND High ISO improvements , Sigma will have to do a lot better than that or at least keep the price near to the older APO DG Macro non OS model (which is likely where it'll end up).

I guess it'll sell in Nikon mount as they've not copied the 70-200 F4L IS yet and of course there's Minolta and Pentax mounts. WHY Sigma havnen't managed to crack the 70-200 series sharp at F2.8 business is a mystery, canon did it first time (Legendary 80-200L) as did Nikon (the old Pump zoom 80-200 F2.8s are superb) in the 1980s - I believe the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 Di of about 2 years ago was pretty good at F2.8 (on the shots it actually managed to AF properly) ..

A Problem is only the pessimistic way of looking at a challenge
