Buying a lens in the US

Hi all,
I'm thinking of buying a new lens while on vacation in the USA next week. I was considering either the 55-300 or the 70-300 depending on availability and cost.
I'll be looking for a stockist in the Raleigh / Durham NC area, but I was also considering buying online and having it delivered to a hotel. My original plan was to buy from B & H Photovideo and deliver it to the hotel in NC. This way I would avoid paying the sales tax that I would normally have to pay in NC.
Other than warranty issues and potential customs costs in the UK (and I'll be driving from NC to NYC, so I could return / swap the lens at the end of my journey if required) can anyone see a downside to this idea ?
Also, does anyone know a reasonably priced camera / lens stockist near Cary / Raleigh ?
Thanks in advance!
