Everest Base Camp
Sep 7, 2010

Morning all,

I've got a friend who is heading off to do a climb to the Everest base camp in about 6 weeks and she's determined to pick up a decent SLR to take before she goes, which is likely to be a 500D or 550D.

The other thing she's very keen on is taking a single lens which covers pretty much the full range, from fairly wide angle to long zoom so that she isn't carrying too much weight with multiple lenses.

Some of the obvious candidates are the Tamron 18-270 or 18-200, Sigma 18-200 or 18-250 and Canon 18-200 and having read around a bit this morning, it sounds like the Canon 18-200 or Sigma 18-250 might be the best of that bunch.

What I'm wondering is whether any of you folks have specific recommendations of lenses or other accessories which would be suited to such a trip?

Many thanks,
