How to archive RAW photos in Lightroom?

I have a lot of disk space being used for photos I have no immediate need for.
I would like to archive them to a DVD. I would also like to copy the LR3 catalog to the same media in order to have all of my edits available when I restore the RAW files.
The problem I am having is that my LR3 catalog is 2.5GB, which is almost half of a DVD's storage capacity. Is there a way to selectively copy the catalog so that it only has the sidecar files for the photos I am copying to the DVD?
