Restoration & Copyright issues
Aug 23, 2010

Hi All,

Just having a discussion with my boss. Was hoping someone here can shed some light on this subject.

If somebody takes an old damaged picture and restores it for a customer, does the retoucher have any copyright claims for the new image. He has technically created a new image and the old image could have been so badly damaged it was nearly destroyed.

I suppose its a similar issue to sampling in Music production maybe.

Anybody know of a definite answer or a landmark case involving this kind of issue??
Light is Light, its what you do with it that counts
