AVCHD cannot be cut and rejoined without reencoding because of the nature of the compression (I and P frames).

If you want to do a lot of cutting and editing, either record in MJPEG or use an intermediary lossless codec (like HuffYUV) for editing and then reencode the final product into H.264. You'll get much better compression than Panasonic's real-time codec anyway.
