D300 Battery Grip

I have been looking at the Nikon MB-D10 Battery Grip for my D300. I'm not sure about spending the $250 on a battery grip, is there an aftermarket brand that does the same thing that has equivalent quality? Also is something like this even worth an investment or a waste of money. The only thing that has caught my attention is the vertical positioning. Thanks, PPP
