Will the new sony dslr models threaten canikon dominance?
Aug 13, 2010

The current alpha dslrs are currenlty vastly outsold by canon and nikon. Could this change with the addition of video to the line up? This new feature for the 3xx and 5xx seems to be the one concrete thing we know about. 'Optimised for video' seems to be the theme of all the new cameras rumoured for photokina, I wonder if sony will finally have a competitive advantage, as they seem to have some nice innovations for video AF.

In terms of more traditional features, the high iso is fine now, the biggest weaknesses are AF, jpeg engine and overall features. If they have addressed these features and can offer better video (ie better AF in video) than canikon then sony may finally have a dslr series that outperforms the competition on many fronts. Together with the nex we may see quite a change in the ILC market in the coming months...
