Japanese market share H1 2010: Panasonic m4/3 jumps to 11%
Aug 12, 2010

I do not know if anyone has posted this link on "DSLR" market share in Japan for the first half of 2010.

http://www.dslrphoto.com/dslr/japan-most-popular-dslr-camera-sales-ranking-first-half-of-2010---1-nikon-d90,16840.html

Panasonic's 10.9% share makes it clear that EVIL (mirrorless interchangeable lens) cameras like Micro Four Thirds are included since Panasonic no longer makes true DSLRs. And that 10.9% is the biggest "DSLR" share I have ever seen for any maker other than Canon or Nikon. Olympus m4/3 clearly has a smaller share, but m4/3 probably at least half of its 7.9% share, putting m4/3 total at about 16% or more. Apparently month-by-month breakdowns show a surge for Sony after the release of NEX.

One overall conclusion: the EVIL systems are probably already outselling the DSLR's from Sony, Olympus and Pentax combined, and maybe m4/3 alone is close to that. It becomes obvious why Pentax is (reportedly) about to launch an EVIL system. If this trend continues, DSLR's might eventually become the exclusive niche of the big two (Canon and Nikon).
