Using T2i 550D as a camcorder

I think it is well understood by now that DSLR's are not really comparable to camcorders when it comes to 'everyday' use.

The PQ is potentially very high, but they come up short in terms of usability.

However, on a visit to RHS Wisley Gardens the other day, I used my 550D camcorder style as we wandered around to record the sort of footage anyone might capture with a camcorder.

You can see the result at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3DoR3Bul9o

This was all straight out of the camera, just assembled with Zoombrowser.

To overcome things like lack of autofocus I generally kept to a wide angle and small apeture to maximise DoF. I also used a monopod to keep things steady.

I find pans sometime suffer from the jello effect if I pan too fast, so I tried to keep it slow. Also it was an overcast day so the contrast isn't high.
