Royal Photographic Society Undermining Value of Photography
Aug 4, 2010

I have today sent a strongly worded note to the RPS in response to them promoting and support a scheme where members give away photographs to Southwest Tourism free of charge. Just for the chance of a getting a "buzz" from seeing them published. No prizes of cash reward. If you are an RPS member it will be in your email inbox this morning.

Southwest Tourism will not just use them on their own publications but make them available to in-flight magazines and the like.

How do other RPS members who make all or part of their living being undermined by their Society? I believe we need to get this give away scheme knocked on the head and fast! We do not need the RPS undermining the value of photography yet further; it is under enough pressure as a career.

This is badly thought through and will cost the RPS many of its professional members.
