I have used 135F/2 DC extensively for phographing aviary birds, aquarium fishes and flowers. All the time I operated on manual mode in D-3 at f4.Ocassionalyy I used TC 14A/201 and got excellent results. What is nedded is to get the distance where the front barriers are thinned i.e. the contrast is reduce .It depends on the the light angle. One will have to find it physically painstakingly as the failures are frequent. In my view 135 DC. works competently on manual mode.It s a unique make by Nikon.
