canon sx210is pics and questions

Hello i bought my wife an sx210is 2 weeks ago and today was the firstday we took itout. we went to the bronx zoo and on the lcd the pictures looked very nice but on my pc the pictures dont look that sharp. I printed a few out and they lack sharpness.especially the one with the lion cubz
The camera was on auto, i dont know if it was my error or just the camera. also thed prints i made were 4x6. the printer was set to 300dpi should i set it higher?
