Panasonic updates firmware - wonder why ?

I get the impression this is more to do with locking out more 3rd party batteries.

...especially as the (our) TZ7 does not appear to have any difficiencies at all - and we like our spare 3rd party battery.

...so is there any point in trying this formware update.
What are your thoughts on this ?
