Need help with taking photos using SX1 + Raynox DCR 250
Jul 28, 2010

Alright, this is silly. I bought a Canon SX1 IS like a year ago and after having experimented enough with it, I wanted to try macro photography. The SX1 has decent macro but not quite 1:1. So, I bought this Raynox DCR 250 to get real close. I have a big problem now. The wafer thin DOF is proving to be a big problem. My rudimental tripod isn't helping matters nor is the poor low-light capability of the SX1. To make it worse, I need to get real close to a bug or an insect ( 10 cms) to shoot macro at full-zoom and that's scaring away the little things!

Please help. Do I need a better tripod (or, maybe, wheels for my tripod)? Would it be a good idea if I invested in a light-source? Do you have any recommendations for a good light?
