I am thinking of buying this lens and now read this thread. Do you know (or does anyone here know) what impact this has on the battery?

If the battery life is not reduced by lets say more than 10% to a lens w/o this problem I would probably be still happy to use it.

I've had this lens for a few months and it's fine in terms of battery life. Absolutely no difference than my Canon 24-105 L IS for instance. Despite the chicken-littles on this thread, so-called battery drain on this lens (or any other current OS/IS lens) is not an issue. And while there is a barely audible noise that comes from the gyro on the Sigma 18-125, it's nothing compared to the freight train of an IS soundwise from my Canon 70-200 F4 L IS.

There may be other shortcomings of this lens (it's a great, cheap, all-in-one walk around lens IMO), but the OS's effect on your battery is not one of them.
